One person died and 11 others were injured when a wayward truck ploughed through up to 18 vehicles parked along a public market in Taytay, Rizal, at about 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 14, according to police.
Quoted on radio, Superintendent Samuel Delorino, chief of Taytay police, said the 10-wheeler truck, with plate number RXK-994, also slammed into clothing stalls and an ongoing bazaar around the market after its brakes failed.
Many of the victims were either run over by the truck or caught underneath collapsed structures. They were rushed to nearby hospitals and clinics around Angono and Taytay. Two of the injured are in critical condition.
Driver Baldonado Villagracia, who admitted that the truck’s brakes failed, is under the custody of Taytay police and will face corresponding charges.
