Norata South CotabatoTwo Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) fighters who were arrested in connection with a roadside bombing in Midsayap town in Cotabato province last week have accused the military of torturing them, according to radio reports.

Adzal Bobby Dansulaw, 56, were quoted as saying that he and Lahmudin Ampuan, 21, were forced “to admit responsibility for the bombing” by making them “eat chili while undergoing investigation”. Both are residents of Datu Abdullah Sangki in Maguindanao.

Dansulaw denied he and Ampuan were behind the bombing and did not own the two grenades found in their possession. He admitted, however, that he owned the recovered firearm “for self-defense only.”

Dansulaw and Ampuan were seized during a checkpoint operation last June 26, reports said late Tuesday, June 28.

Four people — three soldiers and a student — were wounded after an improvised explosive device (IED) went off near Ulandang National High School in Midsayap, while a military truck was passing by.

The Army turned over the two to Midsayap police following the arrest.
