DavaoAt least two people were wounded after armed men have attacked a police station in Davao Oriental province, according to the local chief executive.

Quoted on radio, Mayor Vicente Orencia of Governor Generoso town said the attack on the Sigaboy police station occurred at about 8 p.m. Sunday, May 29.

Orencia cited initial information indicating at least two people were shot although police were still determining the motive for the attack.

Investigators are not discounting the possibility the communist New People’s Army (NPA) may be behind the shooting that occurred as President-elect Rodrigo Duterte and the communist leadership were taking steps to resume the scuttled peace talks and after Duterte had told the armed group of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) to leave police alone, especially if it was doing its work.
