At least seven people were killed in an ambush hours before the start of voting on Election Day on Monday, May 9, in Cavite province.
Initial radio reports said at least one person was wounded in the shooting that occurred in Barangay (village) Wawa III in Rosario town. The victims were not identified.
Superintendent Rommel Javier, Rosario police head said they could not discount politics as a possible motive for the ambush.
He said they were interviewing witnesses to the incident. Police have also obtained and were analyzing closed-circuit television footage of the incident.
Recovered from the scene were shells from M-16 rifles, and 9-millimeter and caliber-.45 pistols.
Security was tightened in the area following the ambush.
