A Mass will be held Friday, May 6, for police personnel assigned to secure the elections in Abra, one of the hotspots in this year’s elections, according to Bangued (Abra) Bishop Leopoldo Jaucian.

Jaucian said the Mass would be before police personnel would be deployed to their areas of responsibility in the province.

“We’ll have a Mass to bless PNP (personnel) that will be assigned in the different areas of Abra,” Jaucian, who chairs the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines’ Episcopal Commission on Youth, said on Church-run Radyo Veritas.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) had placed Abra under its control due to violence there.

Radyo Veritas said the Mass would be at 7:30 a.m. in Camp Juan Villamor in Bangued.

The PNP had listed Pangasinan, Masbate, Negros Oriental, Western Samar, Maguindanao, Lanao del Sur, Lanao del Norte, Nueva Ecija and Abra as potential election hotspots.

It listed as areas of concern some areas in Northern Mindanao, Cagayan Valley, Central Mindanao, Central Luzon and Calabarzon.
