Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre chided Senator Leila de Lima for resorting to hysterics rather than answering the accusations against her.
“Alam mo kapag ganun ang tao nawawala na sa katuwiran, hindi ka maaaring magdepensa ng sarili mo ng puro accusation lamang nang walang pruweba,” said Aguirre in a press conference on Wednesday September 28.
(You know, a person who resorts to hysterics starts to lose her sense of reasoning. You cannot defend yourself on accusations which you cannot prove.)
Aguirre advised Sen. de Lima not to be hysterical otherwise she’ll lose her “defense”.
“Para ka nang hindi abogado eh, hindi ganiyan ang pagdepensa sa sarili,” he said, after de Lima broke down in a press conference earlier on Wednesday and dared the president to arrest her.
(You are acting as if you are not a lawyer. That is not how you defend yourself.)
Aguirre was asking de Lima to prove her allegation that the inmates at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) were forced to testify against her.
“Katulad ng sinabi ko kahapon na kapag ikaw ay nag-akusa, dapat may pruweba ka,” said Aguirre.
(Like what I’ve said yesterday, if you accuse someone, you should have evidence to prove it.)
Aguirre stood pat on his belief that de Lima was involved in the illegal drug trade at the NBP.
