Apple’s next iPhone may have dual camera systems made not just by Japanese electronics giant Sony, but also by Korean firm LG, too.
This was after Sony could not quite keep up with demand, Apple-oriented site 9to5mac reported, citing data from Nomura Securities.
It said Nomura analysts think Sony may not be able to deliver its full share of dual cameras to Apple due to below-expected yield, and damage to its production facility from the earthquake in Kumamoto last April.
Sony earlier suspended operations at another facility used for manufacturing smartphone image sensors following the earthquake, the site noted.
Meanwhile, Nomura also expects Apple to bring optical imaging stabilization (OIS) to its 4.7-inch iPhone 7. Presently, OIS is limited to the larger 5.5-inch models. (MC)
