Church official cites
‘conditions’ in backing Duterte

Catholic Church officials in the Philippines assured presumptive president Rodrigo Duterte of its backing, but cited two “conditions” for such support.

The Church will support Duterte so long as his programs are for the good of the people, and will not violate human rights, Caritas Philippines said.

Edu Gariguez said on Church-run Radyo Veritas.

Yet, he said a newly elected leader who wants to effect reforms must have support from all people.

Because of this, he said the Church will support programs for the poor, environment, and human rights.
