The Commission on Elections (Comelec) en banc has formally accepted the “irrevocable” resignation of Commissioner Christian Robert Lim as head of its campaign finance office (CFO), Chairman Andres Bautista said.
Lawyer Jose Tolentino, the poll body’s executive director, will succeed Lim, said Bautista.
In his letter, Lim said he vehemently opposed the en banc’s decision, by a vote of 4-3, to extend the filing of the statement of contribution and expenses (SOCE) following a request by the Liberal Party (LP).
Its standard-bearer Manuel “Mar” Roxas made a similar request for a 14-day extension to file his SOCE or campaign expense report.
The Comelec set June 30 as the new deadline for candidates in the May 9 national polls to file their spending reports.
Lim said his resignation was effective on Monday, June 20.
Lim thanked CFO personnel, Comelec field workers, and the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism (PCIJ) for their support in raising awareness for the country’s campaign finance laws.
Lim, the steering committee head for the May 9 polls, announced his resignation on Friday, June 17.
