Senator Panfilo Lacson has a “different standard of arrogance,” Philippine National Police chief Director General Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa said on Tuesday (May 2).

“He is my idol pero kung sabihin niya na arrogant yung pag depensa ko sa mga tao ko na hindi nangongotong, hindi nag-aabuso, pasensiya na, iba yung standard niya ng arrogance,” Dela Rosa told reporters.

nding my men who were not corrupt, nor abusive, I’m sorry he has a  different standard for arrogance.)

“Kapag depensa lang, ginagawa lang ng tama. Ang hindi tama doon, iproprove natin na hindi tama,” he said.

Lacson earlier said it was “arrogant” for Dela Rosa for making excuses for the mistakes of his men when they kept a secret cell inside the Manila police station.

“Defending policemen for maintaining an unlivable secret prison cell hidden behind a book shelf inside a police station is incomprehensible. It is also very arrogant,” he said.

Lacson is Dela Rosa’s former boss in the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Task Force (PAOCTF) when the senator was then the chief of the Philippine National Police.

The PAOCTF was formed during former President and now Manila Mayor Joseph Ejercito Estrada’s administration.

Dela Rosa maintained his respect for Lacson but he said he could not accept the senator’s perception on arrogance.

“I respect him very much, he is my idol. I don’t know paano ko i-reconcile ‘yung arrogance na iyon,” Dela Rosa added.

The Commission on Human Rights recently discovered the cell behind a wooden cabinet at the Manila Police District Station 1 in Tondo.

But Dela Rosa defended the actions of the Manila cops, who reportedly used the detainees inside the cramped cell as milking cows.

“As long as the prisoners were not tortured or extorted, it’s okay with me,” Dela Rosa said.
