A diarrhea outbreak in a village in Cotabato province which affected 85 people is under control, its chief local official said.

Mayor Florenito Gonzaga of Magpet said the outbreak at Barangay Don Panaca has been arrested as of Wednesday, June 29, with the deployment of health personnel to monitor the situation and, with the help of village officials, collect water samples in the area.

Gonzaga said his office was looking into the possibility the outbreak may have stemmed from drinking water contaminated by rain.

Residents complained of stomach pains, vomiting and loose bowel movement.

Some were brought to the rural health center for treatment.
