In what could be his first official act, President Rodrigo Duterte ordered “all department secretaries and agency heads to reduce requirements and processing time” for a more efficient and effective delivery of services to the people.
“Remove redundant requirements. Compliance with one department shall be sufficient for all. I direct all department secretaries, agency heads to reduce requirements and processing time,” said Duterte in his inaugural speech after he was sworn in as the country’s 16th president on Thursday, June 30.
Duterte’s directive was part of his administration’s advocacy of “transparency” in government.
“I abhor secrecy. I advocate transparency in all government,” said Duterte at the Rizal Hall in Malacanang.
He also warned government personnel to “refrain from changing, bending rules on government contracts”.
“Changing rules when the game is ongoing is wrong,” Duterte said.
He said he would sanction those who would not cooperate.
“You mind your work and I will mind mine. Do your work and we will work together. Do not do your work and we will part sooner than later,” said Duterte.
