It has not even been released as a beta to the public yet, but Apple’s upcoming operating system update for mobile devices may have already been compromised.
A hacker claimed to have jailbroken iOS 10, the update to the OS for iPhones, iPads and iPod touch devices that Apple announced at its Worldwide Developers Conference.
Hacker iH8sn0w posted a YouTube video appearing to show an iPhone running iOS 10 being modified to run apps outside the official App Store.
Jailbroken devices allow owners to get apps outside Apple’s official sources, but they also open the device to potential security threats.
A report on tech site The Next Web noted iOS 10 is still “weeks away” from its first public beta.
“The video, if real, proves that the community is far from dead, and jailbreaking iOS — even the developer beta of its newest version — is still possible,” it said. MC
