A former Laguna town mayor faces charges for failing to account for a P100,000 cash advance he got in 2002, the Office of the Ombudsman said Tuesday, June 28.
The Ombudsman said former Majayjay mayor Victorino Rodillas may have violated Article 218 of the Revised Penal Code for failure to liquidate the cash advance to buy supplies.
Records showed Rodillas got P100,000 in October 2002 as cash advance, with the amount drawn from the town’s general fund.
But while the Commission on Audit’s Circular No. 97-002 said Rodillas should have liquidated the cash advance in January 2003, he did so only in 2006.
Under Article 218 of the RPC, a public officer faces penalties if he or she fails to make an accounting to the COA or to a provincial auditor within two months. MC
