Bellatrix Tan who represented Zamboanga City in the 2016 Miss Philippines Earth pageant has admitted that she was hurt after being bashed for her controversial answer during the pageant’s question and answer portion but that won’t stop her from fulfilling her dream of becoming a beauty queen.

“Alam ko ‘to.

(I know. I know what El Nino and La Nina is but when it came out of my mouth, during the end, that’s it. The crowd was already shouting and I felt ‘down’. Cause I heard the audience, and they were laughing. Just because of what I said, they might think that I am stupid and everything.).

During the Q and A, Tan was asked to comment about the hashtag #ElNinoLaNina and she gave a confusing answer “El Niño is what we are experiencing now. If we do simple things like planting trees then we will not be experiencing drought, right? So if we start now, we will achieve La Niña.”

The video which drew flak from netizens became viral. As of June 15, the video has garnered more than three million views.

Miss Philippines-Earth Imelda Schweighart defended Tan and said that her co-candidate was “pressured” during the pageant.

Tan said that despite the gaffe she would one day prove that she is worthy of a crown.

(I won’t stop just because of bashers who said that I have no brains and everything, and that I am all beauty. No. I will show them someday, I will be back at the beauty pageant.).

Netizens who saw the YouTube video rallied behind Tan and gave her moral support. Here were some of their comments:
