Actors Baron Geisler and Kiko Matos have accepted the invitation of Universal Reality Combat Championship (URCC) to settle their differences mano-a-mano in the cage.
On their Facebook account on Tuesday, May 31, URCC-Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) wrote: <ANNOUNCEMENT> Baron Geisler just contacted our match-maker over the phone and says that he wants to settle everything with Kiko Matos inside the cage on URCC Fight Night this coming June 25, 2016 at the Palace Pool Club. BAKBAKAN NA!!!
The post was accompanied by a screenshot of Geisler’s tweet: “Ok. I will make it happen.”
According to “Mismo” host Jobert Sucaldito of DZMM Teleradyo on May 30, the two actors had an altercation in a bar after Geisler supposedly noticed Matos shouting at the bar tender.
Matos apparently did not like Geisler meddling on the issue and the two had an argument. A spliced video which only showed Geisler hitting Matos recently went viral.
In an interview with GMA News on May 29, Matos admitted having committed a mistake and shared his side of the incident: “Tumayo ako tapos sinabi ko sa sarili ko, ‘Subukan nga natin ‘yung tapang ni Baron Geisler.’ So nilapitan ko siya (Baron) tapos inaawat kami. Hanggang sa naisip ko nalang, ‘Sige magshake hands kami.’ Alam ko, aminado ako (na) ako pa nakipag-shake hands pero gusto ko lang naman turuan ng leksyon si Baron eh. Di naman niya kasi puwedeng, alam mo yun, umasta na parang siya yung may-ari nung lugar.” (I stood up and I told myself, “What if I test Baron’s Geisler’s guts? So I approached him but we were weaned. So I just thought, ‘Why don’t we just shake hands?’ I know and I admit I shook his hands but I only wanted to teach him a lesson. He can’t act like he owns the place.)
The indie actor addressed Geisler on the interview with a stern message, “Face me, don’t Facebook me” after the latter shared his side of the story on his FB account.
On the same day, Geisler responded to Matos’ interview with a tweet: “Face me don’t face book me…Tsk, tsk. Edi don’t sucker punch me. Love you!”
On the sidelights of the URCC press conference on May 30, URCC president Alvin Aguilar was asked about his thoughts on the Matos-Geisler incident during the Q and A with reporters, and said that it was better that the two settle their difference in the cage.
“Fighting in the streets and in bars is just no good. I’m no stranger to that, I’ve been in so many. And that’s something that shouldn’t be done anymore. That’s in the past. These guys (Baron and Kiko), a lot of kids are watching them saying, “ Uy, grabe, gusto ko rin maging astig” at makikipag-away sa bar. No, you go to the URCC and showcase your skills if you really want to be a fighter,”said Aguilar in a video posted on the URC-Mixed Martial Arts website.
On May 30, URCC-MMA’s FB account confirmed Matos’ participation with the post: “<CONFIRMED> Kiko Matos already got in touch with our new match-maker, SirRonald Catunao and said that he will fight Baron Geisler inside the URCC cage on June 25, 2016. Kiko Matos will start training as soon as Baron Geisler confirms as well. Stay tuned! BIGWASAN NA!!!”
The URCC-MMA will be telecast live at ABS-CBN Sports Action Channel on June 25. The event organizers has yet to confirm if the Matos-Geisler fight will be part of the telecast.
