The National Food Authority (NFA) assured on Tuesday, February 14, that adequate rice supply will be provided to Surigao City and other earthquake-affected areas, the state-run Philippine News Agency (PNA) reported.
“It is one of the mandates of NFA to provide rice to a calamity-stricken area within 22 hours from the occurrence of a calamity or emergency,” Administrator Jason Laureano Y. Aquino said.
The report said that the NFA released 200 bags of rice as requested by the local government unit (LGU) in Surigao del Norte.
The rice supply is different from the relief supplies that have been delivered to Surigao after it was declared under a state of calamity.
Surigao City was declared as state of calamity after a 6.7 magnitude quake jolted the area on Feb. 10.
