NU on top but La Salle, UP stay
close in UAAP women’s volleyball

The National University (NU) Lady Bulldogs, the De La Salle University (DLSU) Lady Spikers and the University of the Philippines (UP) Lady Maroons have remained undefeated in the first round of the women’s volleyball of UAAP ’79 as they took care of their respective opponents over the weekend.

The Lady Bulldogs, who prevailed over the Ateneo de Manila Lady Eagles in four sets on Wednesday, February 8, had no problems defeating the Adamson Lady Falcons in straight sets, 25-15; 25-22; 25-19, in the first game of a double-header on Sunday, Feb. 12.

They currently lead the standings at 3-0.

Meanwhile, the Lady Spikers dealt the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Lady Tigresses their second straight loss in as many games, 25-23; 16-25; 25-14; 25-22, on Saturday, Feb. 11.

The defending champions are a game behind the Lady Bulldogs but are likewise undefeated at 2-0.

The Lady Maroons tied the Lady Spikers after disposing of the University of the East (UE) Lady Red Warriors also in straight sets on Saturday, 25-16; 26-24; 25-19.

Before this, the Lady Maroons beat the Lady Falcons on the opening weekend of the tournament on Feb. 4.

The Lady Eagles kept pace after defeating the Far East University (FEU) Lady Tamaraws in a five-set thriller, 25-19; 24-26; 19-25; 25-16; 15-11, in the second game on Sunday.

The Lady Eagles, runners-up in UAAP ’78, are in fourth at 2-1.

FEU, considered a title contender this season, dropped to 1-2.

UST, UE and Adamson have yet to barge into the win column.
