Vice President Leni Robredo has paid the first installment fee worth P8 million for her counter protest against former Senator Bongbong Marcos.
Robredo, accompanied by her lead counsel Romulo Macalintal, on Tuesday went to the Supreme Court, sitting as the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET) to settle the initial P8 million.
Speaking before her supporters at the Supreme Court, Robredo said it had been difficult for her camp to raise the P8 million deposit. She was given only five days to settle the amount.
Robredo said this goes to show that she, despite being in position for a long time, never pocketed government money unlike the Marcoses.
Earlier, the PET junked Robredo’s motion for reconsideration on its resolution directing Robredo to pay the cash deposit.
The PET directed Robredo to pay the second installment worth P7.43 million in July.
