UP shocks La Salle; UST trumps
UE in UAAP women’s volleyball

The University of the Philippines (UP) Lady Maroons shocked the defending champions, the De La Salle Lady Spikers, in straight sets in the women’s volleyball event of UAAP 79 on Wednesday, February 15.

It was the first time that the Lady Maroons, behind wily Nicole Tiamzon, beat the Lady Spikers, 25-22; 25-21; 25-19, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

They now tie the National University (NU) Lady Bulldogs atop the team standings undefeated at 3-0.

The Lady Spikers drop into second place with archrival Ateneo Lady Eagles with a 2-1 win-loss record.

The last time that La Salle lost in straight sets was against the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Lady Tigresses in the last match of the elimination round of UAAP 78 on March 2, 2015.

In the first game, the Lady Tigresses defeated the University of the East Lady Red Warriors in straight sets for their first win while UE absorbed its third loss in as many games.
