Four areas in Luzon and Visayas were placed under Signal No. 2 as typhoon “Nina” (international name:”Nock-ten”) intensified further, the state-run weather bureau said on Saturday, December 24.
Areas under Signal no. 2 are:
4. Northern Samar
Areas under Signal no. 1
1. Camarines Norte
2. Camarines Sur
4. Masbate including Ticao
5. Burias Island
7. Quezon including Polillo Islands
4.Northern part of Leyte
As of 4 p.m., the Philipine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) spotted the typhoon at 390 kilometers (km) east of Virac, Catanduanes.
It packs maximum sustained winds of up to 175 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 125 kph .
Typhoon “Nina” is expected to move west -northwest at 15 kph.
Moderate to heavy rainfall will be experienced within its 500 km-diameter.
The typhoon is expected to make landfall over Catanduanes on Sunday, Dec. 25, according to Pagasa.
The bureau said sea travel would be risky over the seaboards of Northern Luzon and the eastern seaboard of Central Luzon.
