‘Star Trek’ remake actor
dies in freak accident–report

Actor Anton Yelchin, known for his roles in the movies “Alpha Dog” and “Like Crazy”, died in a car accident Monday morning, June 20 (Philippine time), according to a CNN report. He was 27 years old.

Yelchin, who played Pavel Chekov in the movie, “Star Trek” reboot, was killed in his own driveway, said authorities, according to CNN.

Police said that he just stepped out of his car in his home’s driveway when the car moved backward and pinned him against a brick pillar and security fence, causing trauma that led to his death.

“The victim was on his way to meet his friends for a rehearsal and when he didn’t show up, his friends went to his house where they found him deceased by his car,” said Jennifer Houser of the Los Angeles Police Department.

“It appears that he momentarily left his car, leaving it in the driveway. He was behind the vehicle when it rolled backward and pinned him to the brick pillar causing the trauma that led to his death,” Houser added.

Houser did not know when the car was running when Yelchin was found.The actor’s family has been notified by his friends who found him at the time of the incident.

Yelchin had been acting professionally since he was 9 years old, playing Jacob Clarke in the Steven Spielberg miniseries “Taken.” He also played the teenage Kyle Reese in “Terminator: Salvation” and Charlie Brewster in the remake of “Fright Night.”

Yelchin left behind the voice acting part of Jim in the upcoming Guillermo Del Toro film “Trollhunters.”
