Malacañang hit back at Senator Antonio Trillanes IV after he unleashed fresh tirades against President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday, June 22.
Trillanes claimed that the Davao Death Squad (DDS) when Duterte was mayor has been renamed the “Philippine Death Squad,” now that he has been elected president.
The senator said Superintendent Marvin Marcos and other active policemen were behind the death squad, known to have killed Duterte opponents and criminals using means other than what is under the law.
Marcos was one of the police officers tagged in the killing of former Mayor Rolando Espinosa Jr. of Albuera town in Leyte in his detention cell in November 2016.
“You know, he seems to be really given to his huge fantasies,” said Presidential spokesman Ernesto Abella in a news briefing.
Aside from the presence of a death squad, Trillanes also said Duterte had ordered the downgrading of the murder charges of Marcos and his co-accused.
The justice department said it has downgraded the murder charges against Marcos and other police officers involved in the Espinosa slay to homicide.
“(He) seemed out of tune and not reflective of the times,” Abella said of Trillanes.
