It’s not easy being parents of a popular celebrity.

“They said family and friends now call them ‘Mommy Dub’ and ‘Daddy Dub’,” a source told about Maine Mendoza’s folks Teddy and Mary Ann in an exclusive interview.

Mendoza plays Yaya Dub in Eat Bulaga’s phenomenal kalye-serye. Alden Richards is her love interest.

While they take pride in being parents of Yaya Dub, the Mendozas feel the pressure of being thrust into the limelight.

“They are low-key and simple,” our source added.

Mendoza’s mother manages the family-owned gasoline stations while her father is a contractor.

They are, however, very thankful for the support of their daughter’s fans, as well as, followers of the AlDub pair.

“They are very loving parents. And they are very supportive of Maine,” said our source.

Yaya Dub whose real name is Nicomaine Dei Mendoza has four siblings – two girls, and two boys.

In as much as Mendoza’s father does not want her daughter to have a boyfriend yet, her family believes she is already old enough to decide for herself.

“Of age na rin naman sya. Wala na rin siyang magagawa,” our source added.

Mendoza had only one boyfriend in the past, during the latter part of her high school years “but it was more of puppy love.”

The relationship went on towards college but the two broke up because her father was very strict, our source said.

“He has offered her many things just so that she won’t have a boyfriend.”

Many fans hope that Richards, whose real name is Richard Faulkerson Jr. will eventually court Mendoza.

The young actor has never confirmed any relationship despite being linked to a number of actresses in the past – Louise delos Reyes, Sam Pinto, and Julie Anne San Jose, to name a few.

Richards’ father, meanwhile, has no qualms about sharing his thoughts about his son, the character he plays on the kalye-serye and Yaya Dub.

Dubbed ‘Daddy Bae’ by Alden fanatics, Richard Faulkerson regularly tweets about AlDub, even goading the pair’s millions of fans to post using the episode’s hashtag.

He posted angry tweets, albeit jokingly, when Lola Nidora (Wally Bayola) subjected his son to tough challenges.

He has, nevertheless, been generous about giving fans a peek into Richards’ childhood posting photos from the actor’s younger years, much to the delight of fans.

Faulkerson is a widower. He raised his family in Laguna.

Richards has two siblings. He was a business administration student of De La Salle (DLS) – Canlubang before he entered showbiz.

Incidentally, Mendoza graduated with a degree in culinary arts at DLS – College of Saint Benilde (CSB). The Mendozas are based in Bulacan.

On Saturday, September 5, Richards and Yaya Dub are competing against each other in “Bulaga Pa More,” Bulaga’s talent showdown.

Nidora, however, had imposed restrictions to ensure that the split-screen lovebirds will not meet.

“Expect Maine’s family to see her perform, Just like the last time they came to the studio in full force. They even took a photo with Alden,” our source said.

Mendoza had a ‘Cinderella moment’ in Bulaga on August 12. Richards chased her but Nidora, who channeled the Wicked Witch, barred him.

Fans hope Yaya Dub will guest.
