NASA 'ticket to Mars'What’s the next best thing to going to Mars? Getting your name there, the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) believes.

In a bid to promote its space exploration program, NASA is giving away personalized “boarding passes” to would-be space travellers who fill out an online submission form at http://mars.nasa.gov/participate/send-your-name/orion-first-flight/.

The names gathered by NASA will be placed in a microchip that will be carried by the Orion spacecraft when it is launched for a four-hour, two-orbit test flight in early December.

The deadline for inclusion on the flight is on October 31.

As of past noon of October 10, Philippines time, 475,374 “boarding passes” had been submitted.
NASA also offers “frequent flyer” miles it says will “allow you to send your name on future Journey to Mars launches.”

“Orion will launch atop a Delta IV Heavy rocket from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station’s Space Launch Complex 37,” NASA said.
