At least 187 rainwater collectors will be set up in Western Visayas in time for the heavy rain from the La Nina weather phenomenon, the Department of Public Works and Highways said.
The DPWH said it allocated P37.4 million for the 187 rainwater collection system (RWCS) projects in the region.
Each collector will have a reinforced ground storage tank that can hold up to 4,000 liters of water, reinforced steel ground storage tank that can also hold 4,000 liters, and a plastic container tank and concrete storage tank with a capacity of 6,000 liters.
“When harvested, the rainwater can also be used for several agricultural and environmental purposes,” the DPWH said.
All RWCS units shall be installed within the premises of public markets and public elementary schools with no existing water supply or where the source of water is limited.
For 2016, the DPWH said a total of P700 million is programmed for the nationwide implementation of RWCS. MC
