Sending erring cops in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) is an insult and a social injustice.

We uphold the dignity of ARMM and deploying rogue cops is a “sheer insult and we should not take this sitting down.”

Whether it’s peace and order or culture, the ARMM will always stand up for integrity.

The 1987 Constitution’s mandate is to respect the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao and the Cordilleras for human development, and to empower the people for social justice. However, the transfer of rogue cops to ARMM violates this principle.

President Duterte’s punishment for cops whom he described as “errant and scalawags” is to reassign them to Basilan. One of the reasons cited was that provinces like Basilan lack policemen because the police stations were the targets of bombing.

Will shady police officers empower us with an environment for social justice? Is the PNP (Philippine National Police) an organization that will help us build a framework for social justice?

On the contrary, it promotes the idea that we deserve less. It reinforces the propaganda of radical groups that the government is our enemy then, and our government is still our enemy-now.

Based on the Sunstar Bacolod report, four policemen tagged in narcotics trade were sent to ARMM. The story reported that since October 2016, a total of 34 rogue policemen were deployed in ARMM or the Cordillera.

We, along with ARMM Governor Mujiv Hataman, urge PNP Chief Ronald dela Rosa to reconsider this action.

This maltreatment of the ARMM and the Bangsomoro should no longer continue.
