Gina Lopez, managing director of television giant ABS-CBN’s charity organization, has accepted the offer of President-elect Rodrigo Duterte to join his Cabinet as secretary of the Department of Environmental and Natural Resources (DENR), reports on Tuesday, June 21.
Lopez has been involved in various advocacy projects on protecting the environment, including efforts to save the Pasig River from dying.
Apart from being the managing director of ABS-CBN’s Lingkod Bayan Foundation, Lopez is known for her anti-mining advocacy and media-based philanthropy. She was chosen to lead the Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission (PRRC) in 2010.
The incoming DENR secretary assured Duterte of her full support when offered the Cabinet post during a courtesy call at the Presidential Guest House, also known as Malacanang of the South, in Davao City. / cjs
