Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., who is running for vice president in the 2016 national elections, has expressed confidence that he will get the Ilocano vote in Mindanao.
The son of the late dictator campaigned in parts of Mindanao this week. In North Cotabato, where at least 65 percent are Ilocano migrants, he was warmly welcomed by the residents and officials.
On Thursday, Marcos went around Makilala, Kidapawan, Matalam, Kabacan and Midsayap.
“We are already here in Mindanao, in the south, but I still feel the presence of the solid north,” he said.
Makilala Mayor Rudy Caoagdan, a member of the Liberal Party, expressed his support for Marcos.
“My being an LP member is one thing; my support for Marcos is another because after all my parents are from Ilcocos region: my mother is from Laoag City, my father is from Pangasinan. There is no reason why we won’t support a fellow Ilocano,” Caoagdan said.
“I think Bongbong will win in North Cotabato,” he added. North Cotabato covers 32 percent of Soccsksargen’s voting population.
This week, Marcos campaigned in General Santos City and Koronadal City in South Cotabato before heading to North Cotabato. Today, Marcos will visit Davao del Sur and he will be in Zamboanga del Sur on Saturday, March 12.
