Cop who tried to play ‘peacemaker’
in Quezon City precinct shootout dies

A policeman who tried to play peacemaker between two colleagues in a shootout inside a police precinct in Quezon City, has died, according to radio reports.

The victim was identified as Senior Police Officer 1 Arnel Fortez who died at the Quirino Memorial Medical Center at about 1 a.m., Thursday, March 17.

He was seriously wounded after he sustained a gunshot wound in the neck during the incident on Wednesday, March 15.

Still under observation at a hospital in Marikina City is Police Officer 2 DJ Valdez, one of two involved in the shootout.

The other policeman, one PO1 Ducusin, was hit in the arm.

Initial investigation showed that Valdez and Ducusin engaged in a shootout inside Quezon City Police District Station 12 in Eastwood, with Fortez trying to intervene. The reason for the dispute was not known.
