The decision of the Department of Justice (DOJ) to enlist the help of the International Police (Interpol) for the arrest of former police official Arturo Lascañas shows that he is telling the truth about the existence of the Davao Death Squad (DDS), Senator Antonio Trillanes IV said.
“Ito ay maliwanag na panggigipit sa mga magtetestigo laban kay Duterte. Inuna na nila inipit si Matobato, ngayon naman ay si Lascañas,” Trillanes said in a text message on Tuesday, June 13.
“Kaya patunay rin ito na nagsasabi ng totoo silang dalawa,” Trillanes said.
Lascañas is Arturo Lascañas, a former police official in Davao City when Duterte was its mayor. He testified before the Senate in early 2017 on the existence of the DDS, which Duterte allegedly headed.
The former police official admitted that he was a member of Duterte’s hit squad. He revealed that Duterte ordered them to kill Davao-based broadcaster Jun Pala.
In a memorandum, Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II directed the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to coordinate with the Interpol for the arrest of Lascañas.
Aguirre ordered NBI Director Dante Gierran to work together with Interpol in gathering information on the whereabouts of Lascañas.
Lascañas went to Singapore for a vacation with his family after his Senate testimony and has not returned to the country since.
A warrant of arrest has been issued against Lascañas for the alleged murder of Pala.
