The Miss Philippines Earth 2016 beauty pageant announced the winners of the Resorts Wear Competition during a special presentation held at the Pontefino Estates in Gulod Labac, Batangas City recently.
The winners were Rachel Quinonez, Miss Lubang, Occidental Mindoro, Gold; Bellatrix Tan, Miss Zamboanga City, Silver; and Nina Shera Tagalog, Miss Palo, Leyte, Bronze.
Other winners of special awards were Imelda Schweighart, Ms Puerto Princesa City, Ms Pontefino Residence; and Krissandra Marie Abel, Ms Lobo, Batangas, Miss Pontefino Hotel.
The prizes were awarded by Tommy Tantoco, Pontefino Chief Finance Officer; and Fely T. Ramos, Pontefino Senior Vice President for Operations. Reigning Miss Earth Angelia Ong, who won the special award last year, hosted the pre-pageant show.
The 2016 Miss Philippines Earth beauty pageant coronation night will be held in Kawit, Cavite on June 11.
Also, candidates of the environment-driven pageant led the planting of mangroves along the banks of Calumpang River here in barangays Cuta and Kumintang Ibaba in an effort to rehabilitate and restore the 427-square kilometer river from its deteriorating condition.
Aside from Mr, Tantoco and Ms Ramos, others who joined the mangrove planting event were Oliver Gonzales, USAID Bleaders for the Calumpang River Rehabilitation Project of Batangas City, Environment and Natural Resources (ENRO); Peachy Veneracion, pageant director of local pageant organizer Carousel Productions; students, and private organizations.
Barangay Councilor Lilia Andal of Gulod Labac, head of the “Save the Calumpang River Movement,” said that the mangroves were donated by First Gas vice president Mon Araneta and other private groups.
