You can soon log into Facebook from Apple TV, after the social networking giant released a software development kit for Apple’s tvOS platform.
Facebook’s Chris Pan said the SDK is presently in beta (testing) and promises to build “immersive social experiences” to Apple TV.
“The new Apple TV brings the App Store to the big screen, and today we’re introducing the Facebook SDK for tvOS beta to help you build immersive social experiences on that platform,” he said.
He said the SDK for tvOS can integrate these features into tvOS apps:
– Facebook Login, which gives developers a “fast and easy” way for people to log into their apps. Facebook users can enter a confirmation code displayed on the TV into their smartphone or computer, instead of entering usernames and passwords.
– Facebook Analytics for Apps
A separate report on Apple-oriented site 9to5mac said this could address a “weakness” of Apple TV in text input, especially when logging into services and apps.
“If a user were to choose the Facebook method, they would be presented with a unique 8 digit code that they could then enter into their smartphone or tablet to authorize the application. There would be no need to use the on-screen Apple TV keyboard to enter full log-in information,” it said.
