Vice presidential bet Senate Majority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano on Tuesday, February 16, gained the support of Cebuano students in Mandaue City after presenting to them his bold solutions to improve the country’s public health care system.
As part of their “Ronda-Serye” listening tour, Cayetano had an informal dialogue with students from the Cebu Doctors University and personally delivered his and his running mate Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte’s message of creating real changes in the country’s health sector.
“We need to spread the development to the regions to address the country’s disorder. This includes responding adequately and equitably to the health needs of our people, especially in the provinces,” Cayetano said.
The senator particularly pointed out the lack of specialty hospitals like Heart and Lung Centers in Visayas.
“Sa Maynila, kumpleto ang specialty hospitals doon. Pero ang mga taga-Visayas ba, hindi nagkakasakit sa puso at baga? Hindi rin ba nila kailangan ng sapat na serbisyo ng gobyerno?” Cayetano noted.
As such, Cayetano said if elected, their tandem will pave the way for more accessible health care facilities for Filipinos through the construction of tertiary in all regions and specialty hospitals in Visayas and in Mindanao.
“If we build more public health facilities in the provinces, the average Visayan no longer has to travel for 43 minutes or almost an hour to get properly treated,” Cayetano noted.
Apart from these, the tandem also pledged to provide better benefits and additional subsidies for public health workers, especially those working in rural areas, to encourage more able individuals to provide quality health care services to Filipinos in the countryside.
